Today, I had the surreal experience of running into none other than Andrew Cotton, the big wave surfing icon, at a local cafe. For those who might not know, Andrew is renowned for tackling the monstrous waves at Nazaré and is set to be in the upcoming third season of the HBO series “100 Foot Wave” about big wave surfing.

Running into one of the most fearless surfers in the world, I was in complete awe. But what struck me most was how incredibly down-to-earth and approachable he was – truly one of the nicest people I`ve ever met. I couldn`t resist asking him the question that`s on every big wave enthusiast`s mind: "How do you bounce back from such a beating by Mother Nature, and what mindset do you need to tackle this fear?"

His response? A simple, yet profound, "I`m just stubborn." That`s Andrew Cotton for you – a man of few words but immense courage. He embodies the spirit of big wave surfing, a blend of bravery, resilience, and an unbreakable connection with the ocean.

Meeting Andrew today wasn`t just an encounter with a surfing legend, it was a lesson in humility and the power of human spirit. As I left the cafe, I felt a renewed sense of respect for all those who dare to ride these giants. Andrew, you`re a true legend. 🌟
